Standard CSA Z142-10 Code for Power Press Operation: Health, Safety, and Guarding Requirements

Standard CSA Z142-10

WHAT’S NEW – CSA Z142-10 CODE FOR POWER PRESS OPERATION: HEALTH, SAFETY, AND SAFEGUARDING REQUIREMENTS

Unlike the USA, which has individual standards to deal with mechanical punch presses, hydraulic punch presses, and brake presses, in Canada, we have one standard that deals with all of them.

CSA Z142-10 Code for Power Press Operation: Health, Safety, and Safeguarding Requirements have recently been published and has some significant changes from the previous edition. We strongly recommend that users of power presses in Canada purchase and understand the contents of this new code. The most significant changes relate to the following:

  • Direct drive (servo) press description and requirements
  • Machines included in the code
  • Machines excluded from the code
  • Continuous-on-demand control requirements
  • Requirements for pressurizing hydraulic tie rod nuts
  • Use and requirements for laser actuated active opto-electronic protective devices
  • Requirements for slow speed motion on brake presses
  • Elimination of radio frequency capacitance devices as safeguarding devices
  • Use and requirements of ram locks as blocking devices

A copy of CSA Z142-10 Code for Power Press Operation: Health, Safety, and Safeguarding Requirements are available from the Canadian Standards Association.  If you require more information about the Standard or related training.
